Wreck of the 'Shenandoah,' 38" x 10"
This is an original panoramic photograph of the crash in Ohio of the U. S. Navy's first rigid airship, the USS Shenandoah. She was on her 57th trip and flew out of N.A.S. Lakehurst. The Shenandoah ran into a severe storm on the morning of September 3, 1925. Forced upwards, the ship ruptured her gas bags and broke into three pieces. This is the aft section of the ship and here 18 crewmen survived the crash. Sam Clements was known for his panoramic photographs and captured this image not long after the crash. Measures 38” x 10” with several rips and tears as shown.
